Saturday’s Downtown Pro race, although unusually long at 2 hours, was filled with excitement from the start gun. The small but talented field all raced aggressively and eventually a 15-rider group formed with about 40 laps to go. Hincapie Racing was well represented with our protected rider Ty (fresh off his win in Anniston, Alabama) and Oscar, who can always be counted on to keep the group away from the chasing field. Hincapie Racing played their cards perfectly until a surprise attack from Eric Marcotte on the last lap spoiled our plans for a hometown victory. Ty finished second, which was a solid result for the team. The Downtown criterium was not only special because it’s a hometown professional championships, but also because it was held on the old Michelin Cycling Classic course, which we produced for almost 20 years. Coincidentally enough, Michelin remains a sponsor of the team and have been a supporter of our programs for many years.
