Greenville, S.C.— The Hincapie Racing Team is pleased to announce its 2015 professional roster with the return of two-time U23 National Criterium Champion Ty Magner, and Robin Carpenter, stage winner at the 2014 USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
The 2015 roster includes returning riders Oscar Clark, Joe Lewis, Joe Schmaltz, Dion Smith, Tom Skujins, Miguel Bryon, and Charlie Hough. New to the team are Jon Hornbeck, Rob Squire, Andzs Flaksis, and Mac Brennan. Darren Fuller and 2005 USPRO National Champion Chris Wherry join Hincapie Racing as assistant directors.
It’s a team with high hopes following an extremely successful campaign in 2014. Under the leadership of Chief Sports Director Thomas Craven, The Hincapie Racing team surpassed even the most optimistic expectations, highlighted by more race victories in 2014, 39, than any other development team.
Entering 2014, the team was just hoping to gain entry to the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. As a result of the team’s early success, that invitation was extended and then promptly justified when Robin Carpenter won the prestigious tour’s 2nd stage.
Just weeks earlier at the Tour of Utah, Hincapie’s Joey Rosskopf turned in an eye-opening ride on the queen stage, narrowly finishing second to BMC Racing’s Cadel Evans. He proved himself nearly equal to Evans on that day, and so it’s fitting that 2015 will see Rosskopf join Evans on BMC Racing, fulfilling another of the Hincapie Racing team’s goals: moving a rider to a UCI ProTeam.
Other team highlights from 2014 included winning the Redlands Bicycle Classic, which Rosskopf did late with a win on the final stage.
“2014 was hugely successful for the Hincapie Racing team by any measure,” said Craven. “But we have loftier goals in 2015 for a team that retains most of a core group that’s been together for two years now. Invitations to the AMGEN Tour of California, Tour of Utah and USA Pro Cycling Challenge are major points of emphasis for us. We’d also like to see a Hincapie Racing Team member wear the leader jersey. And the national championship will be held right in our backyard in Greenville, S.C. this year. We’d certainly like to see some Hincapie jerseys competing there as well.”
The Hincapie Racing Team is registered with USA Cycling as a UCI Continental Team. It’s made possible through a commitment by Rich and George Hincapie and Mark Holowesko.
“My brother George and I are committed to giving back to a sport that’s given us so much,” said Rich. “That’s what the Hincapie Racing Team represents to us: our responsibility to the next generation. To see our team have success it did in 2014 was a testament to the effort, and presents an exciting new challenge. Achieving success is one thing, maintaining success and building on it is another and that’s what we’re hoping to do.”
For 2015 the team continues its relationship with bike sponsor Felt, which provides FC framesets for road races and criteriums, and the DA1 for time trials.
