My life has been dominated by pro cycling. It’s really time intensive. I have a fairly good sense of what I’m missing out on by doing this full-time, but I’m okay with that.

I had a good year last year, and I had offers to go other places. But if all things are equal, just moving to a bigger team isn’t worth giving up something you know you enjoy and are happy doing. I’m ambitious, but not at all costs. I like this team, I’ve been here for a while, and all my best friends are on this team.

I really like the training aspect of cycling. I like the process. I like seeing the results of change—that you can mess with one variable and then see a different outcome. I also like being able to travel all over the world. I’ve had a lot of cool experiences, met a lot of different people. It’s a good reminder that not everybody is like me, and we should value those differences.
