Team takes first stage in Tour of Normandie and leads the race for four days
2018 marks the first year for Holowesko|Citadel p/b Arapahoe Resources as a Pro Continental team, and, thus, the first time in a few years that the team has traveled to Europe for any races.
Their reintroduction to European racing began in France at Tour of Normandie, and the week was met with much success for the team. 2018 recruit Fabian Lienhard started off the race winning the first stage, and he carried the leader’s jersey for four days after that. Also new to the team, Nicolai Brøchner earned five top-10 stage finishes in the duration of the week.
Stage 5 brought some misses for the team, when Lienhard lost the yellow jersey, but overall, the team recovered well, and Miguel Bryon finished 7th in the last stage.
According to chief sports director Thomas Craven, this first race was just about getting acclimated to the European style of racing–narrow roads, big crowds, extreme weather conditions, etc.
“It’s all about learning how the European races are done, making connections here, learning how the European race officials work, assessing the competition,” says Craven. “For our first race, the guys did really well.”
Next on tap is Route Adelie in Vitre’ on March 30, followed by La Roue Tourangelle Region Centre Val de Loire April 1.
